With the tragic events unfolding at the end of last week in Kamloops surrounding the discovery of the remains of 215 Indigenous children on the former Kamloops Residential School site, we will be honouring their memory and demonstrating reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples of Canada, for those who survived the Indian Residential School system, those who did not, and those yet to be found.
At Ecole Mission Central, we will be flying our flags at half-mast for the week and postponing our planned Spirit activity Wednesday. Instead we are asking all staff and students to wear an orange this Wednesday, June 2nd. Staff and students may choose to wear orange on Monday or for the entire week, as well. Additional school wide activities and class activities will likely be added over the course of the week. Pride Rainbow Spirit Day will be moved to Thursday, June 17.
We will provide support for any students requiring assistance or support.
Mr. Andrew Merry
