Information for First Week of School
Dear Parents and Guardians of École Mission Central Elementary students:
We are already looking forward to the start of the new school year. We look forward to the return our former students and staff. We also welcome new students, parents, and staff to École Mission Central Elementary School. We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with our families, students, and staff.
The new school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept 3.
For Grades 1-6
Tuesday will be from 8:30 am to 11:00 am for all students except kindergarten students.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be full days – 8:30 am-2:23 pm.
For Kindergarten Students
Families should have received a letter/email from the school in July indicating the teacher and gradual entry schedule for your child for the first 2 weeks of school. On Tuesday, Sept 3, you will be meeting at either 9:00- 9:30 am or 10:20-10:50 am depending on the time indicated in the letter. Kindergarten students will begin their gradual entry schedule on Wednesday, Sept 4. Please contact the school after August 26, 2024, if you are unsure of which times to attend. You may also contact either administrator during the summer at andrew.merry@mpsd.ca or frank.chan@mpsd.ca We apologize for potential delays in responding quickly to your requests during the summer months.
Which class do I go to?
Class lists with teacher names, divisions and room numbers will be displayed on the library windows and display board outside the school at the front of the school by 8:00 am on Tuesday, Sept 3 and Monday, Sept 11. Exterior classroom doors will be labeled with corresponding divisions, room numbers and teacher names.
All students will be in temporary/holding classes in which both French Immersion and English students of the same or similar grade level will be blended together for the first week as we make adjustments for new students and students who have moved away. On Wednesday, Thursday, Friday of the first week, Grade 1-6 students will be rotating 3 times each day to other classrooms. This will allow teachers and students a chance to get to know each other and to help teachers make final decisions for student placements. We will finalize classes on Friday and students will start in their permanent classes on Monday, Sept 9.
We will do our best to honour family requests for placements, however, our staff have thoughtfully considered student placement using their experience, knowledge of the student, and professional judgement. Additionally, there can be more requests than spaces.
Other Information
